Making of Onion Bhajiya
MUMBAI N MUMBAIKARS love Rains & Cricket. We love to indulge in some Hot & Spicy food when it’s pouring & if there’s a Live Cricket Match then there’s double the reason to Indulge. Today I am sharing a Recipe of Onion BHAJIYA which is widely made in almost every part of India!!
It is made with Besan ( chickpea flour) with different vegetables like potatoes, onions, green chilli, cauliflower & so on.
My Recipe is made with cooked Rice which gives a superb texture to the BHAJIYA, You can also call them the ‘Indian Croquettes’.
Ingredients for Onion Bhajiya:
- 1 cup Besan/ chickpea flour
- 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 cup curds/ yoghurt
- 1 big onion finely chopped
- 1 small bunch of coriander finely chopped
- 2 tsp red chilli powder
- half tsp turmeric powder
- half tsp asafoetida
- A pinch of baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Method of making Onion Bhajiya:
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Mix both the flours, salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, a pinch of baking soda.
Add the finely chopped onion, coriander & rice.
Add the curds/ yoghurt.
Mix everything well together.
Take a small amount of the Batter in a spoon & add in the hot oil, you can add 4 or 5 at a time.
The gas flame should be medium, if the oil is very hot then the BHAJIYA will be undercooked from Inside.
Fry till they turn golden brown, they should be Crunchy on the outside & soft from inside.
Serve them Hot with Red / Green Chutney.
HAPPY MONSOON.
