CHAWLI NA DANA NU SHAAK!!! Yardlong beans / Cowpeas made in an Indian way….

Today I am going to share my Recipe of CHAWLI NA DANA NU SHAAK….

This is how it looks like 👆…

Have you had this fresh Vegetable known as CHAWLI / LOBIA …It is the famous YARDLONG BEANS or COWPEAS as known in the West..

Yardlong beans or Cowpeas or CHAWLI NA DANA is a type of fresh Long Beans…. Mostly green, sometimes the red variety is available too ( although very rare) …These are long slender beans green in colour… Each pod contains small pea like beans within…. which I like to call as GREAN EDIBLE PEARLS !!!

These are slightly different than the regular CHAWLI or LOBIA that are available throughout the year as these are more famous for their fresh beans within ( My Green Pearls 😊😊)

As with other Beans their Nutritional Value is also very high…. Great for Health !!

Usually available in Winter, this delicious vegetable can be made in various ways but I am going to share my Favourite way of Cooking it……. just as My Mom makes it !!! Mommies are the Best aren’t they?????

So let’s get started…

For CHAWLI NA DANA NU SHAAK..

INGREDIENTS —

U need —–

500 gms CHAWLI / Yardlong beans peeled

12 Baby potatoes

250gms chopped green garlic

1 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves

1 cup grated fresh coconut

3 tablespoon Ginger chilli paste

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

3 tablespoon oil

1 teaspoon ajwain or carom seeds

A pinch of aesofoetida

1 cup water

Salt to taste

Method—

Parboil the baby Potatoes

Heat oil in a pan

Add the Ajwain/ carom seeds & aesofoetida

Add the peeled Beans

Add the baking soda

Add the salt ( it is necessary to add salt now to retain the green colour )

Mix in the Ginger Chilli paste

Now add the chopped green garlic, coriander leaves, & grated coconut

Mix everything well together

Stir well & add one cup of water ( you can add more if want a gravy like consistency)

Put a lid on top & cook well for about 20 minutes

When the beans are half cooked, add the parboiled potatoes

Cook for around 10 minutes more

Check if both the beans & potatoes are cooked well

If not cook for some more time

When Done, Serve the CHAWLI NA DANA NU SHAAK !!!

This Delicious Veggie tastes best with Hot Rotis / Phulkas / Indian bread ….

Make Gujarati Kadhi to serve with this, it Tastes Heavenly !!!!

If you want you can even pressure cook everything to make it faster….

Make half the quantity if you are a small family …..
